These make a great gift for a child to make and give away.
Materials: clay pot, paint, seed, soil
1. Provide each student/child with a clay pot.
2. Use different colored paint (acrylic) to paint the child's thumb.
3. Press painted thumb to the flower pots in different areas.
4. Use black marker or bubble t-shirt paint to add characteristics to the thumb prints.
5. Use the paint to write "Thumbody Loves You" on the flower pot.
For science, have the student germinate a flower seed in the window first and let it grow about a month prior to Mother's Day to give as a gift. You can make the thumb prints into insects like seen in the picture or flowers.

These are very pretty flowerpots, and the kids can proudly watch beautiful flowers grow out of them! I'd combine that activity with an introduction to gardening, maybe... Two birds with one stone!

Wow, these sound like very nice pigments indeed! I will definitely look them up, and maybe buy a set for my artist friend who cannot usually afford high-quality pigments and paints. She'll be very happy I'm sure! She always complains about not being able to get her oranges right.

That's very neat! Those pots are cheap and easy to paint. How about having the kids choose a flower to grow in the pot they've just decorated? It makes for an even better gift, as the receiver will see the plant grow and be reminded of the giver when the flower blooms.

This is a beautiful faux flower. Add some perfume and you will keep Mom guessing whether it is real or not. This makes a perfect refrigerator magnet to give as a gift or add to the top of a gift package.
